BfR

Abbreviation for Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung

In short and in plain language

The BfR is a German national institute.

It looks at risks to health. This covers food, chemicals and products, for example.

It has a list of very poisonous plants. These plants should not grow where children play.

Definition
The BfR is the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, which assesses health risks, for example in food, chemicals and products. In 2021 it published a list of particularly poisonous garden plants and native plants in the wild in the Federal Gazette. It recommends not planting them in places where children play or spend time; for a private garden the list is guidance, not a ban.
