BKG

Abbreviation for Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie

In short and in plain language

The BKG is a German federal office for maps and land surveys.

With other offices and the German states, it makes a map of heavy rain risks.

The map shows where water can collect after very heavy rain. It also shows where the water flows.

Definition
The BKG is the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy, a German federal authority. Together with other federal agencies, the federal states and the German Working Group on Water Issues of the Federal States and the Federal Government, it produces the heavy-rain hazard map. For every square metre, the map shows the maximum flood depth, the maximum flow velocity and the flow direction for two simulated heavy-rain events.
