tender
In short and in plain language
A tender is a way to collect quotes.
A client describes a piece of work. Then the client asks several firms for a quote.
Public bodies and property managers often give out work this way. So do housing firms. It may be care of green spaces, tree checks or new gardens.
There is usually a list of the work. It sets fixed dates and the proof that firms must give.

A tender is the procedure by which a client invites quotes from several firms for a described piece of work.
